The punk group leader, a son of a military officer, falls in love with a daughter of the opposition fighter. It is a Spring of 1981 at the seaside town in Poland, at a height of the rising tension between the Socialistic power and the Solidarity movement that is soon to result with establishing of the martial law… Four 18-year-olds form their own punk-rock band. Janek, a sensitive poetic-type is the leader, his brother – Staszek – plays on drums, Kazik – the most rebellious of the pack – uses music as an escape from his alcoholic father who works at the port, while Diabel comes from a wealthy family of a local businessman. Boys dream of performing at the summer music festival in a nearby city. Their passion for music is so strong that they borrow and even steal instruments from the music school to be able to play. They hold their rehearsals in an old train wagon. In the meantime the Solidarity movement initiates a massive wave of workers' protests, which sweeps throughout Poland. The communist authorities consider ways of destroying the Solidarity movement. The tension is almost physically tangible… The boys, apart from their love for music, also share a fascination for the mature beauty of Janek's attractive neighbor Sokolowska, the wife of a political navy officer. But Janek has a teenage crush on their schoolmate Basia. She starts dating Janek, much to the disapproval of her union-leader father who doesn't like his daughter befriending the son of an officer. During the summer holidays the band gets invited to the music festival. Although it looks as if all their dreams started to fulfill, it is still the beginning of their journey that has to go through the establishing of the martial law and its aftermath…
